Seven Signs Your Electrical Panel Needs Attention
Warning signs that a home or commercial electrical panel should be inspected, and what to do in the meantime.
Why the panel matters
Your panel distributes power to every circuit and protects wiring from overloads and faults. When it is undersized, damaged or aging, protection can fail quietly until something overheats.
Warning signs
- Breakers that trip repeatedly or won't reset
- Breakers or the panel cover feel warm to the touch
- Buzzing, crackling or a burning smell near the panel
- Rust, moisture or water staining inside or around the enclosure
- Lights that dim when large appliances start
- Fuses, or a panel brand with a known history of issues
- You're adding an EV charger, heat pump or major appliance
What to do now
Don't remove the panel cover or tighten connections yourself. If you notice heat, smoke or burning odors, keep clear and call 911 if there is any sign of fire. Otherwise, note which breakers trip and when, then schedule an evaluation by a licensed electrician.
What an evaluation includes
A WITEC electrician checks capacity, connection condition, breaker compatibility, grounding and bonding, and whether your service size matches current and planned loads. You'll get options and pricing before any work begins.
