Frequently asked questions
General questions first, then answers by service.
General
How long has WITEC been in business?
WITEC Electrical & Plumbing Contractors was established in 2003, more than two decades ago.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. WITEC is fully licensed and insured, and our electrical work is led by a master electrician.
Do you use union labor?
WITEC employs union and skilled labor.
What are your office hours?
Monday–Friday, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm. Office closed Saturday and Sunday.
What is your response time?
We aim to respond to requests within 24 hours on business days. This is a response commitment, not a promise of same-day arrival.
What does the 1-year guarantee cover?
WITEC offers a 1-year workmanship guarantee on qualifying work. Specific terms and exclusions are stated in your proposal or invoice; equipment is covered by manufacturer warranties.
Are you MBE/DBE certified?
Yes. Request current documentation to verify the certifying agency, jurisdiction, expiration and approved scope for your procurement. Certification is not represented as valid in every jurisdiction.
Do you also do plumbing?
Yes, through our separate plumbing division at witecplumbing.com (816-643-3151). This site covers electrical services.
Excavation & Underground Electrical Construction
Does WITEC offer general excavation or earthmoving?
No. This service is excavation for electrical infrastructure, such as underground conduits and duct banks. General civil excavation and broad earthmoving are not represented as WITEC services.
Are utility locates, backfill and restoration included?
Responsibilities for utility locates, excavation protections, backfill, compaction and restoration are confirmed during project review and defined in the contract. Do not assume these are included in every electrical proposal.
Can you bid municipal underground electrical projects?
Yes. Send drawings, specifications, route information and the bid date to info@witecinc.com or use our bid request page. WITEC’s medium-voltage underground capability is 601V–35kV; eligibility and exact scope require project review.
Commercial Electrical New Construction
Do you bid commercial projects as a subcontractor to general contractors?
Yes. We regularly price electrical scopes for general contractors, developers and owners. Send bid invitations, plans and specifications through our bid request page or to info@witecinc.com.
Can you help before the drawings are final?
Yes. Our design assist service helps owners and GCs evaluate options for service size, distribution layout and lighting before documents are complete.
Who handles permits and inspections?
We coordinate electrical permits and inspections with the applicable city or county authority as part of our scope, unless the contract assigns that responsibility elsewhere.
Do you install generators on commercial projects?
Yes, we install standby and emergency generators along with transfer switches and associated wiring. Equipment selection is coordinated with the engineer of record.
Commercial Electrical Service & Maintenance
Do you offer scheduled maintenance for commercial buildings?
Yes. We can set up recurring visits for panels, lighting, emergency lighting and equipment checks. Tell us about your facility and we will recommend an interval.
Is LED retrofitting worth it?
In many buildings it reduces energy and maintenance costs. We review fixture counts, hours of use and controls so you can compare options before committing.
What is your response time?
Our goal is a response within 24 hours on business days. That is a commitment to contact and triage, not a guaranteed same-day arrival.
Do you warranty service work?
WITEC offers a 1-year workmanship guarantee on qualifying work. Terms are confirmed in your proposal or invoice; manufacturer warranties apply to equipment.
Industrial Electrical
Do you work on conveyor systems?
Yes. We install and service the electrical portions of power and free conveyors and other material-handling systems, including power rails, controls wiring and drives, in coordination with the conveyor supplier.
Can you work in water treatment facilities?
Yes. Verified past performance includes Westside, Waldo and Blue River WWTP pump station retrofits in Kansas City. Broader power, instrumentation and controls wiring capabilities are subject to project scope, not inferred scope on those jobs.
Do you provide emergency industrial repairs?
Call our main line. During office hours we triage immediately; outside hours, leave a message and we will respond as quickly as possible.
Medium-Voltage Systems & Airport Lighting
What voltage range do you work in?
The April 24, 2026 WITEC capability statement specifies medium-voltage systems from 601V–35kV, subject to project requirements.
Do you work at airports?
Yes. Verified past performance includes runway lights at Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport, and passenger boarding bridges and signage at KCI International Airport. Contact us for project-specific qualifications.
Can you perform safety inspections on existing medium-voltage equipment?
Yes. We inspect and service MV equipment and coordinate third-party testing when specifications require it.
Street Lighting & Traffic Signals
Do you work on public agency projects?
Yes. We bid public roadway lighting and signal projects and coordinate with agencies such as KCMO and MoDOT where applicable. Send bid invitations to info@witecinc.com.
Can you maintain private street and parking lighting?
Yes. HOAs, campuses and commercial property owners use us for pole lighting repairs, LED conversions and circuit troubleshooting.
Do you install highway ITS equipment?
Yes. Highway ITS systems and bridge electrical systems are part of WITEC's outside utility work.
Utility Distribution & Underground Utilities
Do you coordinate with the serving utility?
Yes. We coordinate service requirements, equipment pads and scheduling with the utility on behalf of the owner or GC.
Do you handle both low- and medium-voltage underground work?
Yes, our underground work supports low-voltage, communications and medium-voltage systems.
Data, Fiber & Low-Voltage
Can you install data cabling and electrical on the same project?
Yes. Combining power and low-voltage scopes simplifies coordination and scheduling.
Do you provide cable test results?
Testing is part of our install process; let us know if your project requires formal test reports.
Residential Electrical Installations & Service Upgrades
Do I need a panel upgrade to install an EV charger?
Not always. A load calculation tells us whether your existing service can support a charger circuit. Sometimes a load management device or modest upgrade is enough.
How do I know if my panel needs replacing?
Warning signs include frequent tripping, warm or discolored breakers, buzzing, rust, or an older panel brand with known issues. Our resources section explains more.
Do you install home generators?
Yes, we install standby generators with transfer switches and can advise on sizing for the circuits you want to keep running.
Do you do residential plumbing too?
WITEC's plumbing division handles that separately. Visit witecplumbing.com or call 816-643-3151 for plumbing.
Electrical Repairs & Troubleshooting
Is a breaker that keeps tripping dangerous?
A breaker trips to protect wiring. Repeated tripping signals an overload, short or failing device. Don't keep resetting it — have it evaluated.
How fast can you respond?
We aim to respond to requests within 24 hours on business days. Scheduling depends on urgency and crew availability; it is not a guaranteed same-day visit.
Do you charge for diagnostics?
Diagnostic charges vary by job. We'll explain pricing when you call or when we confirm your request.
Design Assist / Design Build
When should we bring you in?
As early as schematic design. The earlier we are involved, the more options remain open for savings and schedule protection.
Do you provide stamped drawings?
Stamped drawings are produced by licensed engineering partners. We coordinate that work under a design-build arrangement.
Whatever It Takes
