Planning Home EV Charging: Start With Capacity
How to evaluate your home's electrical capacity before installing a Level 2 EV charger in the Kansas City area.
Level 1 vs. Level 2
Level 1 charging uses a standard 120V outlet and is slow. Most drivers want Level 2 charging on a dedicated 240V circuit, which adds significant load to your electrical service.
Questions we'll ask
- What size is your electrical service and panel?
- Is there physical space in the panel for a two-pole breaker?
- Where will you park and mount the charger?
- Do you plan more electrification — heat pump, induction range, a second EV?
Your options
Depending on the load calculation, you may be able to add the circuit as-is, use a load-management device, or need a panel or service upgrade. We'll explain the trade-offs, coordinate with the utility when service changes are needed, and pull permits where required.
